The Homestead girls varsity basketball season is starting to come to a close and now they have to take it one game at a time as a loss takes them out of the playoffs. This Friday will mark the face-off between the Highlanders and one of their closest competitors: Mukwonago.

Mukwonago is currently holding a record of 18-4 and holds the fourth seed in the bracket while the Highlanders are currently 17-5 and the number five seed in the current bracket.

“Going into this week’s game, I’m really excited and ready, but I still have a lot of nerves,” Taylor Mcllwraith, junior, said. “This whole week the team has been practicing really hard to prepare.”

Taylor Bolden, junior, feels confident going into this week’s game and believes that the new strategies they have been working on this week have helped them prepare.

With the possibility of the season ending, Katie Soyka, junior, reflects on the season as a whole. “This season has definitely been a long journey of ups and downs. Our team has really matured as players and we have grown together as a family with everyone playing a role on and off the court,” Soyka said.

“We haven’t played Mukwonago yet, but we are working as a team to be more than ready for Friday’s game,” Erin Gifford, junior, explained.

Come be a part of the exciting event this Friday at Mukwonago High School at 7 p.m.

The winner of the game will play Saturday, Feb. 28 vs the winner of the first- seeded Waukesha West versus eighth-seeded Waukesha South winner.
