Charlie Maleki, senior, hits a shot at Ozaukee Country Club during the 2014 season. Maleki is excited for his senior year with the team after four years on varsity. “I’ve had a great four years of experience, and this team especially should have a strong year,” Maleki noted.

The Homestead boys golf team traveled to Hartford to compete in a combined meet of 20 other schools looking to start the season off strong. In a highly competitive meet, the boys finished fifth with a full team effort.

Charlie Maleki, senior, shot a 75 and finished fifth. Robbie Morway, sophomore, shot a 77 to contribute to the team’s fifth place finish. “Charlie and Robbie both played well. All around we struggled with our short games so we will have to work on that in practice,” Mr. Steve O’Brien, head coach, said.

With their first meet under their belts, the team looks to improve going forward, especially after a long golf hibernation throughout winter.“It was good to knock off some of the rust,” Joey Hobbs, junior, said.

“I think we can make a run back to state,” Hobbs added. With two players returning from the state championship team, Maleki and Morway, the team still has a lot of talent. The boys high expectations and returning golfers have them set up to have another very successful season.

The team takes to the course again next Monday at the Wisconsin Club.
