On Thursday night, the Homestead girls soccer team posted a dominating win over nonconference opponent Mukwonago. To the Highlanders, this was just another test on the path to their ultimate goal: state.

The girls flew out of the gate last night, with a goal early on from Jordan Ellerbrock, junior. Ellerbrock opened the door for scoring, leading to three other Highlanders tallying goals.

During the game, the Highlanders were able to cancel many of Mukwonago’s scoring opportunities. “We pressured quickly and limited their time on the ball. We went into the game knowing it was going to be tough, but we played our style and kept our composure throughout the which helped us get the victory,” Christine Kerkman, senior and team captain, said.

On the offensive half of the field, attacks went smoothly for the Highlanders. “We were able to possess the ball very well and pressured hard as a unit when we lost the ball,” Courtney Wiencek, junior, said.

After the game, morale was high after defeating a tough Mukwonago team. “It felt very good to beat Mukwonago because they are a tough team who has beaten us in past years,” Wiencek said.

“I think we really came together as a team and showed everyone what we can do when we’re playing at our best,” Allie Haddad, junior, said.

To end the regular season, the Highlanders will face tough competition in teams such as Germantown and Whitefish Bay. “I believe that the team is up for the challenge and we will be able to go out and perform up to our potential. As long as we play the game the way that works for us, we will be just fine,” Kerkman said.
