Taylor Swift ‘never goes out of style’
Continually pouring out of sound systems in the Homestead parking lot, blaring in people’s ears during study halls or blasting in the gym as people work out to it, the same voice that has filled ears from young ages made me want to investigate why T. Swift is still a hot item.
Taylor Swift has been one of the most beloved musicians since 2006, captivating people around the world with her love anthems and breakup songs. She moved from Pennsylvania to Tennessee at the age of 14 to pursue a music career and debuted “Our Song” and “Tim McGraw” in November 2007 with her Rhapsody album, marking the beginning of her stardom as a country princess.
According to Quora, “Starting out in country music was smart due to not having the pressure to appeal to a huge pop industry; she could be free to write whatever she wanted, simple but catchy songs.”
Starting the transition to pop with her Speak Now and Red album, Swift marked her changing directions. In an interview with Taste of Country, “With Red being released, I kind of had one foot in with pop and one foot in country and if you want to continue to evolve, you eventually have to pick a lane and I just picked the one that felt more natural to me at this point in my life,” Swift said.
Swift marked her full turn to the pop genre with the 1989 album that sold over 1.3 million copies all over the world within the first week. According to Billboard, “Six singles have been released from the set, all reaching number one.” She was also nominated for eight Grammies for 1989 including album of the year following her nomination in 2014 for Red and win for Fearless in 2010.
Many celebrities have a one hit wonder or a good album but then fall down a path of drugs, alcohol or anything that will put them in the magazines as a easier way to stay in the limelight.
Swift proves that one does not have to get into bad habits to be a successful musician like Miley Cyrus or Britney Spears, as long as he or she has a good tune for society to jam out to. Overall, society will admit her music sounds original and in this day and age it stands out to people of all ages, not like one-worded music with an autotuned sound.
“Taylor is relatable, she never went through the rough patch, proving you do not have to do drugs and get into trouble to keep your fame. I love the song “Bad Blood” because it is catchy and a great song to work out to,” Madeline Slicker, senior, said.
“She has changed her type of music to accommodate people besides just country,” Sadie Leszczynski, sophomore, said.
Most people can relate deeply to her songs from their lost first loves, or her catchy lyrics, whether or not they want to admit it.
“Her last album was really catchy and she totally rehabilitated her image recently,” Emma Foulkes, senior, said.
“This is her greatest power; an ability to combine her art and her life so profoundly that both spheres become more interesting to everyone,” GQ Magazine stated.
Taylor Swift is climbing further up the charts every few years, and keeping her sweet and kind symbol for all of society will prove Taylor’s music will never go out of style.
