For the 2016-2017 school year, Mrs. Molly Navarre, special education teacher, will transfer departments from special education to guidance, taking over for Mr. Dave Markson, freshman guidance counselor. According to the Mequon-Thiensville BoardDocs, Mrs. Navarre’s transfer contract was approved on May 16, 2016 by the Mequon-Thiensville Board of Education. To become a school counselor, Mrs. Navarre received her Master’s degree in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in School Counseling in 2008.

Mrs. Navarre taught special education at Homestead for 12 years. “As a special education teacher, I’ve had the opportunity to work with some students for two years in a row.  I’ll really miss working closely with ‘my juniors’ as they transition to their senior year, but I am confident they’ll be in good hands,” Mrs. Navarre said.

Looking toward the future, Mrs. Navarre said, “I most look forward to building relationships with a larger number of students. The freshmen are often curious, excited and anxious about coming up to the high school,” Mrs. Navarre said. “Transitioning to high school and getting off to a good start is so important.  I look forward to working with each student to make it a smooth and successful transition both academically and socially.  I plan to help students find what interests them and help them get involved so they can truly enhance their high school experience.”

“I have been able to develop so many close relationships over the years since I see ‘my kids’ on a daily basis.  I’ll miss that daily interaction.  I’ll also miss the daily–sometimes twice daily–interactions with my co-teaching partners, Mr. Millard and Mr. O’Brien,” Mrs. Navarre said.

Mrs. Navarre’s goals for entering the guidance department are to “build relationships with the incoming freshmen and develop connections with and facilitating connections for them.  I hope that I can be an integral part of each freshman’s success next school year, both academically and socially.”
