The Homestead girls varsity swim and dive team is swimming upstream on their journey to state. The team competed at conference on Saturday Oct. 29, placing second behind Cedarburg.

Performing exceptionally well were the relay teams, all of which had significant time drops. Specifically, the 400 freestyle relay, consisting of Lindsey Bjornstad, junior, Jayci Scheff, sophomore, Leah Tunney, sophomore, and Talia Gottlieb, senior, got their seasonal best time by three seconds.

“Everyone had great swims without being rested. We showed ourselves that with hard work, dedication and teamwork we can accomplish great things,” Caitlyn Lansing, junior, said.

Individually, the team did equally as well. Bjornstad, Tunney, and Gottlieb all placed in the top three for multiple events.

“We really got together as a team to rally through hard practices and so, so many meets. It’s also super exciting to see where we are now with only two weeks left in our season and where we can go in those two weeks,” Bjornstad said.

As the season comes to a close, the girls are looking forward to sectionals next week at Cedarburg which will be the determining factor of whether or not they qualify for state.

“Placing second as a team is a great confidence booster heading into sectionals. I am very happy with how we competed this weekend and throughout the season,” Coach Becky Young said.
