Every Friday, Highlander Publications chooses a freshman to be featured in “Freshman Friday,” giving the student population the opportunity to get to know its freshman class. Read below to learn about this week’s freshman, Charlie Bowen.

Attempting to unwind after a long day, Charlie Bowen, freshman, goes for a run – with a camera in his hand, hoping to capture something amazing – in order to clear his head and relax.

Bowen was on the cross country team this year, and plans on joining it again next year. “I started running because I like running away from my responsibilities,” Bowen said.

When Bowen is older, he wants to be a photographer. He loves to take pictures of just about anyone and anything. “I got involved in photography because of Connor Franta the YouTuber. He inspired me to get into photography, and made me want to take better pictures.”

When he’s not taking pictures or running, Bowen is usually hanging out with his friends. “My friends and I usually just go and hang out at each other’s houses all the time, but sometimes we decide to go to the movies instead. My friends are my motivation,” Bowen said.

And, if he’s not doing any of that, chances are he’s out at dinner with his family. Bowen has one sister, Besty Bowen, junior. His favorite places to eat at are Noodles and Highland House.

He also really likes the color blue, anything involving math, watching “Teen Wolf” and playing video games. “Math is my favorite subject in school because it’s the one I’m the best at,” Bowen said.

He has two distinct memories from middle school. His favorite memory was when he went to D.C. in seventh grade. His least favorite memory was the eighth grade debate unit because he hates public speaking.

Something most people don’t know about him is that when he was younger, he was adopted.

“I love high school so far! There is a lot of opportunities to go out and do something!” Bowen said. Bowen is looking forward to what the rest of high school has in store.
