As the first trimester of the school year comes to a close, final exams are just around the corner. And, in the freshmen class, a majority have never taken a final exam in their academic career, or have only taken one ever, a far cry from one per class they will take this trimester. This thought of the oncoming onslaught of practice tests and cramming, projects and late-night study sessions has filled some of the students of the freshman class with dread, anxiety and fear of what is to come. Listed below are the emojis that freshmen students believed best expressed their emotions towards the exams to come.

“There was a lot that I wasn’t expecting [this year]…” Noor Shanshal, freshman, who is extremely nervous about taking her final exams, said. “Putting effort into your grades [will make] your life easier.”

Stressed

😫

Willy Doerr, freshman, describes himself as being extremely stressed to take his first ever round of finals. “This emoji captures the frustration, confusion, and tiredness that exams bring.”

Not Feeling Well

Ahjullah Harris, freshman, also wants to take a sick day in replace of taking an exam. “I’m going to be sick when I take these exams,” Harris stated. “It’s going to be scary.”

Over It

🙄

“I think that exams are very stressful,” Sally Desmond, freshman, said. “I have to review everything that I learned and it’s hard to remember. I think I’m going to fail because I am nervous that [my mind is] going to go blank and forget everything [I studied] when I see the test.”

Scared

😨

Leena Afifi, freshman, has described the overall first trimester as an emotional rollercoaster. “One second you are celebrating having an A, while the next your struggling to bring your grade up,” Afifi said. “It’s a big jump from middle to high school, and there is never a night when you have no homework or no exams coming up.”

Worried

😕

With exams on the horizon, Mary Bridget Jones, freshman, is feeling a bit worried, but is overall satisfied with the work she has done thus far. “I feel like this trimester was pretty good. I only had two core classes, and it was still a lot of homework, so I am also nervous for the next trimester,” Jones said.

Stunned

😶

Kendall Coburn, freshman, has also noted some of her worries about her upcoming exams. “I don’t even know how to start studying for the exams,” Coburn said. “I don’t know what to expect!”
