Boys soccer celebrates win for first home game
The boys soccer team pulled out a win against West Bend East in their first home game of the season. The Highlanders won with a final score of 3-1 against the Suns.
After coming off a 5-0 win against Grafton for their first game, the boys were eager to get back on home turf and start their home season strong. “It feels great to be back out on the pitch with the boys again,” AJ Schultz, senior, said.
To start the game Sam Walton, junior, scored the first goal in the first half to bring the score to 1-0. “Today was a great learning experience, and I’m glad we were able to find ways to win without playing our preferred system,” Walton said. The boys held the Suns to 1-0 in the first half.
In the second half Jake Haberer, senior, scored the team’s second goal and West Bend East scored one goal. The Suns also scored on their own goal off of a deflection bringing the score 3-1 Highlanders.
The seniors on the team celebrated their last first home game and their win. “Although our season is cut short everyone is very excited to have the opportunity to play and we all plan on making the most of it,” Manav Shah, senior, said.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the soccer team will have a limited schedule and shorter season. The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) does not require face coverings for outdoor athletics; however, other precautionary measures are being taken to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 for athletes.
