These are the 5 missions of the Air Force. Air and space superiority; intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR); rapid global mobility; global strike; and command and control.
Air and space superiority: the degree to which a side in a conflict holds control of air power over opposing forces.
ISR:
- Intelligence: providing decision-makers with the critical information they need to counter, deter, and defeat threats to national security whenever and wherever they occur.
- Surveillance: Responsible for collecting information related to the enemy’s strength, movements, and activity, Airborne Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) Operators provide top-secret intelligence to command.
- Rapid global mobility: airlift, aerial refueling, and aeromedical evacuation.
Global strike: “Develop and provide combat-ready forces for nuclear deterrence and global strike operations Safe, Secure, and Effective to support the President of the United States and combatant commanders.”
Command and Control: “To control is to manage and direct forces and functions consistent with a commander’s command authority.”
