After numerous successful competitions, Homestead’s varsity robotics team competed at state on March 8, winning alliance first pick and the 437 state record. These accomplishments have secured the team’s spot at the upcoming worlds competition in Houston.
Preparing for worlds, Dan Hurda, robotics team advisor, reflects on what has made the team so successful.
“The team worked hard to finish their robot early to be able to practice driving it. They all work well with each other to make sure they know how to run different machines so that not just one person knows how to do one thing,” Hurda said.
The team has worked to build a reputation that makes them a desirable team to get paired with at competitions. They also build on their own teamwork to make them successful when competing against other teams.
Additionally, Siddharth Kosaraju, junior, who has been a member of the varsity robotics team for three years, provided his insight into what he believes is the most important thing for becoming a successful team.
“Everyone’s ability to grow into leadership roles and their creative problem-solving skills have largely contributed to the team’s success,” Kosaraju said.
Maya Dutta, junior, reflected on her time being a part of the robotics team and what has contributed to the team’s success.
“Everyone putting in the work and being able to communicate with each other makes this team successful,” Dutta said.
Overall, the team emphasized their excitement to see their hard work pay off and see what they can accomplish in the competitive environment of worlds.
