An anonymous student shares her reason for silence.

Recently, the #IWishMyTeacherKnew hashtag went viral after Kyle Schwartz, a third grade teacher from Denver, posted four photos of anonymous note-cards she had her students fill out to answer the prompt, “I wish my teacher knew….”

“The whole thing started as a way for me to get to know my students better and understand where they’re coming from,” Schwartz said in Denver Post article. “It was really eye-opening. What they shared was very honest, very vulnerable and it helped me understand who my students are as people.”

Providing a rare glimpse into the lives of students outside the classroom, the notecards inspired teachers around the country to take a closer look at their own students. Following the trend, Highlander Publications anonymously asked students to write a notecard with the same prompt.
