The Homestead girls volleyball team is at the top of its game, and only plans to improve from here.

The Homestead girls volleyball team is on track to take the conference title, and on Thursday, Sept. 24, the team hopes to get another conference win against the Port Washington Pirates in the Homestead Fieldhouse.

Although the team lost many talented seniors from last year, the talent is still there for this young team. “This is by far the best team we have had during my four years of playing on varsity. We have a lot of young girls, but we also have six seniors who lead the team very well, and I think we have a chance to win conference this year,” Allie Beckers, senior outside hitter, said.

Beckers is receiving a lot of attention from collegiate volleyball programs across the nation, but has not yet decided where she will be taking her talents come fall of next year.

The biggest challenge for the girls so far this season was playing conference rival Germantown. The girls played hard and walked away with the win, which was a big deal for them, having fell to Germantown last year.

With the match on Thursday against Port Washington, the girls aim to win in three games. Even though they hope for an easy win, there are still things that they plan to work on to improve their game. “Ball control and intensity are important. If we let up just because Port isn’t our biggest competition, they could win if we’re playing sloppy,” Alexis Silver, senior right side hitter, said.

The girls are hoping to get the win Thursday night because they want to make not only their team proud, but their parents proud as well, since it is Parents’ Night. The team credits its chemistry on the court to the bond that the team has off the court.

The intensity of practice has gotten higher with the conference title in the team’s grasp, and they do not plan on slowing their hard work down anytime soon. Although the team is hoping to easily beat Port Washington, they want to play as if it was their biggest match of the year. “We have to play every point like it’s game point, all or nothing,” Silver said.
