The boys golf team won its regional tournament to qualify for the sectional tournament on June 1.

Last Tuesday, the Homestead varsity boys golf team won its regional tournament at River Club, qualifying them for the sectional tournament tomorrow, Wed. June 1.

The top five golfers, Joey Hobbs and Adam Morris, seniors, and Rob Morway, Max Pasher and Dawson Dahlberg, juniors, competed against seven other teams for four qualifying spots. The Highlanders had a a little bit of an advantage being the hosts of the tournament and being able to play at their home course.

For the Highlanders, Pasher shot an even par 72, Hobbs had a 77, Morris came in with an 80, Morway put up a 81, and Dahlberg finished it off with an 83. The Highlanders put up some good scores allowing them to score a team total of 310, winning the tournament.

Besides winning the tournament, the highlight of the tournament for the Highlanders was Pasher getting his first hole-in-one on the 4th hole.

“I was 157 yards out so I took an easy 9-iron and landed it just short of the hole. It bounced a little past the hole and spun back and went in the hole,” Pasher said. “There was about three seconds of silence and everyone started screaming. I saw Joey on the 5th tee box and he turned around and I threw my hands up and he did the same.”

“I was watching the guys I played with tee off on the fifth hole when I heard screaming from Pasher’s group. I look at the green and I didn’t see a ball. So I looked at Pash who threw his hands up. I just looked at him, smiled, and threw mine up too. I think that pumped our whole team up and got us really excited,” Hobbs said.

Morway, who is a UW-Madison commit for golf, had a rough day for him on the front nine but was able to be calmed down and go out and play well on the back nine. “I struggled a lot on the front nine. I wasn’t the same player I had been all year but after the first nine, my teammates were able to calm me down and I saw how well my teammates did and I knew that they were playing well so I calmed down and played pretty good on the back,” he said.

Arrowhead followed the Highlanders close by with a team score of 312. However, after that, there was a pretty big gap. Oconomowoc came in third place scoring a 330 and the fourth and final spot went to Pewaukee, scoring a 334.

These four teams move on to the sectional tournament at Brown Deer Park with many other teams such as Marquette and Whitefish Bay. The top two teams at the sectional tournament move on to the state tournament held at University Ridge in Madison. The boys are looking to qualify for state for a third straight year.

“I have never been to the state tournament throughout my four years of high school sports with hockey, soccer and golf. Making it to state has always been my dream and I think we for sure have the talent and ability to finish first or second at sectionals,” Morris said.

“I competed for the number five spot on the team all year with many of my teammates. I worked my hardest trying to get myself in this spot and now that I have it, it’s my job to do everything I can to help my team make it to state and prove I was the right guy for the job,” Dahlberg ended.
