Girls basketball is making waves through their 2024-2025 season. According to coaches, their unstoppable dedication and teamwork have been the driving cause of their 11-5 overall record and 9-2 in the North Shore conference, placing them third.
The team showcased their offensive and defensive skills in their most recent matchup against Cedarburg High School (12-5) on January 24. They effectively forced turnovers, converting them into quick points. They declared the win with a final score of 82-51.
For the 2024-2025 season, the team consists of eleven players, including three new freshmen: Camden Suckow, Tessa Lueck, and Mila Ivancevic. Additionally, five seniors will be graduating: Anisa Barnett, Natalie Mueller, Lauren Strifling, Grace Zortman, and Madison Fitzgibbon.
Sophomore Sarah Zehms said the team has improved in key areas since the start of the season.
“No matter if we win games or not, our shooting and assist percentages have increased by so much since the beginning of the season showing the sense of teamwork we have built! The numbers don’t lie,” Zehms said.
Since the beginning of the season, players feel as if the team has grown together, creating a strong bond that encourages everyone to focus on personal and team goals while maintaining a solid record. The players give their all on the court, supporting each other through every win and loss.
Zehms states that communication is key to winning games, and they are constantly improving. The girls always strive to stay positive, even during tough games.
“I feel the energy our team brings to the games is unmatched. We always have high intensity on and off the court, whether cheering on our teammates from the sidelines or picking each other up in games. Our energy is always there,” Zehms said.
Natalie Mueller, senior, explains how the team’s ability to play together has contributed to their improvement. The team’s success is not just in their skills on the court but in their unity as a group. They have created a culture where each player knows their role and values the contributions of every teammate. This has helped foster a positive environment where each game is a collective effort.
“We have improved a lot since the beginning of the season,” Mueller said. “I think a big part of that is we are playing together and hard.”
Allison Hertz, sophomore, has a special bond with their team. Their team’s chemistry has helped players stay motivated to always work their best.
“I always feel like my team has my back,” Hertz said.
The team is focused on maintaining their momentum as they move through the season, aiming to get a spot in the playoffs. Coaches are hoping to make an impact on the remainder of the season. The team continues to focus on improving each day, to extend their current winning streak.
There are six more games until the official season is over and the playoffs begin, with the next game on Feb. 4, against Hartford High School (15-2) in a big conference game at home.
