With a nearing end, Homestead High School’s boys volleyball program played their final games. Coaches and players throughout the teams gave a recap of the 2025-’26 season.
There were three teams in the program, one varsity and two junior varsity teams. Ean Sullivan, sophomore defensive specialist on the second junior varsity team (JV2), enjoyed different chants that the team executes when they score a point or win, including the iconic “we are..” chant. More elements of the team were the drills that the players did during practice. A factor that influenced the drills in practice included past games, recognition of what players could work on, and using drills to let the players improve.
“My favorite drill is probably a drill called USA… I really like that drill just because it helps us grow with skyballs, serve receive, and respond to certain different situations,” Sullivan said.
The effect that players had on each other was noticed; older or younger, teammates could lean on each other in times of need. The saying, “teamwork makes the dream work” is essential in the game of volleyball. Jack Senglaub, sophomore on varsity, explained the effect that his teammates had on him.
“My teammates; they’re all upper classmen, so they’re all great role models, and they’re always trying to help me on the court,” Senglaub said.
Coach Thomas Omann, coach of the JV2 team, also valued the relationships, growth of players on his team, and building relationships with his players.
“I kind of get to act like an older brother, in a sense… Be someone that they can talk to about problems, about any questions about the game, or if they want to even just have a conversation about what they saw on YouTube or TV, whatever, like, just having a relationship with the boys is something… I can’t ask for anything better than this,” Omann said.
