Mr. Nicholas Schueller, social studies teacher, has a great impact on his students. Aside from his students learning from his teachings about history, his colleagues also learn from him and know they have his support.
When Mr. Schueller is teaching, it doesn’t feel like a lecture but rather storytelling that makes students anticipate learning more about the topic at hand. This goes beyond his teaching in the classroom with his students: this applies to his colleagues as well.
Schueller continues to show his support to his fellow colleagues through motivating them while they are teaching their classes, while also always teaching them life lessons along the way.
Mrs. Julia Hoefs, another social studies teacher who teaches Economics and American Government, teaches right across the hall from Schueller and identifies Schueller as a colleague who motivates her.
“He’s really good at helping me sometimes when I get really fixated on something that I’m doing in class, like, helping me kind of take a step back and see the bigger picture,” Hoefs said.
Schueller never lets his department down and always expands their horizons. Mr. Micah Adams, social studies department chair, emphasizes Schueller’s leadership and positivity.
“He’s the leader of the good time a lot of times… he rallies the troops and has a good attitude about stuff and doesn’t take anything too seriously,” Adams said.
Schueller himself reflects on his teaching and what it means to teach his students: “Teaching is not just that we create. It is like a passion,” Schueller said.
Schueller’s teaching reflects who he is as a teacher at Homestead. He is uplifting and the glue that holds the social studies department together.
Hoefs, like her colleagues, feels appreciation Schueller’s advice for her throughout teaching.
“He really makes coming to work every day feel less like a job, more like something that I get to do,” Hoefs said.
