25 mile radius: We all scream for ice cream
“The Bachelor” has ended, award season is over, and Wisconsinites are now impeding the inevitable doom that is boredom. I, however, have made it my goal this spring to overcome the post-reality TV depression. Mother Nature has gifted Wisconsin with spring early this year, so it’s time for hikes along Lake Michigan and coffee in the Third Ward.
As most Wisconsinites know, our dairy is legendary. We’re blessed with not only mouth-watering cheese but also ice cream that is to die for. It’s not hard to find places that offer delicious native Wisconsin foods, but there is something charming about a place with a history. This week I visited The Chocolate Factory located in downtown Cedarburg.
According to the site, The Chocolate Factory has been “a taste sensation” since 1972, when Mike Toffler and Peter Blommer designed the business and wrote up the first menu on the back of a napkin. The shop was originally a ice cream and candy shop, but in order to distinguish themselves, The Chocolate Factory not only began making subs but also their own ice cream. Now it offers a variety of “tempting ice cream concoctions.”
One of these concoctions include Sarah Palin’s favorite, “Moose Tracks.” But the sweets don’t stop at ice cream; The Chocolate Factory has an array of savory sundaes such as “Dusty Road” and “Top Banana.” Hungry for more? Have a “Chipper,” which is The Chocolate Factory’s take on an ice cream sandwich.
Speaking of sandwiches, The Chocolate Factory’s “Phoenix” and “Blackberry Turkey” are award-winning subs that will make your mouth water at the sight of them. Other mouth-watering foods offered on the menu include hot dogs, chili, soup and salad. The Chocolate Factory is perfect for any chocoholic and offers a variety of “choices are sub-stantial.”
