A 15-year-old Homestead student has been arrested for a threatening poll he posted on the anonymous social media app “Whatsgoodly.”

This morning, Dr. Demond Means, superintendent of schools, released a letter to parents updating them on the status of locating the individual who released a gun threat on the app “Whatsgoodly” yesterday. In his letter, Dr. Means said, “I am pleased to announce that the Mequon Police Department has an individual in custody for allegedly posting the threatening message. The suspect is a Homestead High School student.”

Later reports revealed the 15-year-old boy was arrested this morning and charges of “making a bomb threat and unlawful use of a computer communication system will be sought,” according to Fox 6. Officials do not believe the student had plans to carry out the message his post communicated, and thus, students and staff may enter the building and tonight’s extracurricular events will occur as planned.

In a press conference this morning, Mequon Police Chief Steve Graff said, “The suspect will be booked and processed at the Mequon Police Department and then transported to the Washington County Juvenile Detention Facility… Mequon police wish to emphasize that there is no further concern for students or staff of the Mequon-Thiensville School District or the community related to this incident.”

To conclude his statement, Chief Graff said, “In a message to the kids out there who may believe that they can remain anonymous under these types of apps: you can’t. Please be smart about how you use these apps, or better yet, don’t even download them to begin with.”
