The girls varsity team shows off their state qualifier medals. “I am so excited to be going to state with such a great team,” Andie Weise, freshman, said.

The varsity girls tennis team came out on top during the sectional tournament on Monday, Oct. 5. The tournament was held at Homestead High School and was later moved to North Shore Elite due to the rain. The win secured the girls an entry into the team state tournament, as well as an automatic entry into the individual state tournament for number one and two doubles and singles.

“Our team played amazing at sectionals. Everybody really stepped up to the to the plate,” Frankie Lalonde, junior, said.

All of the girls won their matches and flights. “Each and every spot worked really hard to sweep sectionals,” Andie Weise, freshman, said.

Lalonde and her partner, Sasha Shapsis, freshman, play number one doubles and are headed to the state tournament not only with their team, but also as individuals. “I cannot wait for individual state with my partner, Sasha, and team state with my amazing team,” Lalonde said.

Number one singles, Katya Mikhailenko, senior, is going back to team state for the first time since her freshman year.

“The last time I went to team state was my freshman year and we came up short. I’ve been there, and I’ve seen what it’s like to lose, it’s heartbreaking. As a team we’ve been working incredibly hard to get to where we are and we don’t plan on stopping now. We will give it our all until the very end,” Mikhailenko said.
