Alex Puhl, senior, walks off the ice after a recent victory. Puhl has played all four years at Homestead and has aided in the team’s success this year. “Our chemistry seems to be a lot higher this year than other years,” Puhl stated.

Gliding down the ice, dodging defenders left and right, Homestead scored five goals in a 5-3 rout against Whitefish Bay, Nicolet and Shorewood combined team (WNS).  On a night where Homestead was down six players due to illness, the boys hockey team dug deep with scoring from all different lines.

David Hathaway, senior, started at goalie and provided stout defense as he only allowed one goal in the first two periods. Cole Simpson, senior, led the way with two goals, one in the first and one in the third. Andy Buchanan and Cole DeStefanis, sophomores, and Patrick Katz, senior, decided to join in on the fun as they added to Homestead’s score with one goal apiece.

Three different players scored for WNS, one in the first period and two in the third. However, that was not enough for WNS to overtake Homestead as they had to pull their goalie in the last minutes in an attempt to salvage the game.

Simpson has led the way for Homestead so far this season as he leads the team with 14 points and Joey Hobbs, junior, follows right behind with 12 points this season. “Simpson has helped us not only on the ice but off as well, by pulling our team together and helping our team drive toward our goals,” stated Alex Puhl, senior.

The hockey team has a busy week as they follow yesterday’s game up with a face-off against Oregon on Friday and Monona Grove on Saturday.
