Number 2, Jack Popp, junior, handled the ballwell in the Highlander’s big conference win against Port Washington on Dec. 5 and looks to do the same this weekend. “The team is looking really good for the tournament this weekend, we just need to overcome sickness and injuries but we are looking mighty fine,” Justen Newby, junior, stated.

Coming off its huge conference wins against Nicolet and Cedarburg last week, Homestead’s boys basketball team looks to keep its winning streak going with a big invitational tournament this Friday and Saturday at Homestead.

“The team is feeling good coming off 5 straight wins. We’re starting to play the way we want to play, but we have to keep improving. We’re looking forward to a great holiday tournament this weekend,” Cam Marotta, senior captain, stated.

The team feels like everyone has been playing very well the last couple of games and the team keeps improving in all aspects. It has shown on the court with all of its wins but the team has to keep working hard in order to keep those wins coming.

The team starts off the tournament by playing on Friday night at 6:15 against New Berlin West who despite its 0-8 record so far this year, look to be a team that is improving and is ready to come out to play. Its senior star, Mindika Wijenayake, is averaging just over 16 points per game.

Depending on how the team does on Friday night, it will either play West Bend West or Muskego. These teams play each other Friday night after the Homestead and New Berlin West game at 8:00. With West Bend West having a record of 2-5 and Muskego with a record of 6-1, it’s going to be a game with an upset on the line. The winners of the two games play each other Saturday night at 8:00 in the championship with the losers playing just before then on Saturday night at 6:15 for a fight for third place.

“We have a few practices this week prepping and working on fundamentals. This should prepare us for the games coming up. We want to play Muskego in the championship so we can get revenge, but first, we have to beat a tough New Berlin team,” Jacob Urban, junior, stated.

With these four great teams in one tournament, it looks to be a tournament with a lot of action and should be a tournament that will prove many things about the season for each team.
