Homestead girls primed for Port Washington

Under a new coach, the Lady Highlander Basketball team has compiled a 10-2 record throughout this season, losing only to a tough Germantown team as well as a competitive Cedarburg unit.  Homestead now takes a quick pit-stop at home against Port Washington in a conference showdown after previously traveling to West Allis and snagging a win on Tuesday.

Port Washington has been shaky to say the least, at this point in the year the struggling squad is desperate for a win as it sits in second-to-last place in the conference.

This will be the second meeting for these two teams as Port Washington hosted the last matchup before the new year, eventually losing to the visitors, Homestead.

After losing to Germantown on Jan. 9, Homestead has bounced right back up, beating all three of its next opponents.  The Highlanders still have an opportunity to grab a share of conference as it has opportunities to beat Germantown as well as Cedarburg later on in the season.

Port Washington, on the other hand looks to steal one from Homestead when it enters the field house, as it is desperate for a win in its up-and-down season.

However, Homestead has shown a level as comradery this year and looks to protect its home court.  “We work well together. At practice we all push each other to work hard in a positive way. We win and lose together and don’t blame each other when something doesn’t go the way we want to,” Allison Fochs, junior, said.

According to Carolyn Rossman, junior, “MarciaRae Harmon, senior, and Chloe Marotta, freshman, have really stepped up this year and have been our goto players.”

Both those players represent opposite ends of the spectrum for Homestead as one, Harmon, has gone through four years of Homestead’s program, and the other, Marotta, is in her first year at Homestead, yet both of them are under their first year with new head coach Corey Wolf, however that has not proved to be a road-block for them, merely just a stepping stone to a successful season that they, as well as the team, has had through the first half of the season.

No matter who its opponent might be, the girls basketball team looks to make every game interesting as it takes on its opponents with a full head of steam and a relentless passion for the sport that is basketball.
