Homestead celebrates after a goal scored against Marquette. Boys hockey will be entering its playoffs with a fifth seed.

Entering the waning moments of the regular season,  Homestead attempts to close out on a strong overall season by its winter programs.

Boys basketball bounds into the new week coming off of two conference victories over the Knights of Nicolet and the Bulldogs from Cedarburg.  With four games left in the season, the boys take on a non-conference opponent, Brown Deer, in enemy territory on Thursday.  It will just be a one-game road trip for the boys as they head home for a conference tilt against Milwaukee Lutheran on Friday.

With a 1-1 record last week, girls basketball looks to generate some momentum before the playoffs with three games left.  The girls have a home and away game this week, battling against Milwaukee Vincent on Thursday with a quick turnaround as it battles Milwaukee Lutheran on Friday. Girls basketball holds strong at third place in conference as of now with a big conference showdown against Germantown next week.

Garnering the fifth seed after tallying a 12-10 record this season, Homestead hockey closes out its season at the Ozaukee Ice Center. With two home games on the horizon, Homestead desires to gain momentum against opponents Fond Du Lac and Waukesha on Tuesday and Friday.   “We need to play these games like they are the playoffs to ensure we’re ready to turn it up once playoff time does come,” Sean Driscoll, junior, said.

Losing for only the fourth time this season, the Lakeshore Lighting attempt to get back to its winning ways with back-to-back-to-back games against Sun Prairie on Thursday, Black River Falls on Friday and Point-Rapids on Saturday, all away.  Sun Prairie will be a big wall for the Lightning to climb as it hoists a 13-4-3 record to the Lightning’s 12-4-2 record.

“There really isn’t much we can do but go into the next couple of weeks expecting great things,” Gage Zupke, senior, said about what preparation is needed in the next couple weeks for the wrestling team. Conference took place on Friday for the wrestlers; Zupke took home first place for the 195 pound group, Connor Scholtus, senior, and Tyler Denmark, junior, took second place in their weight groups and Joey Fischer, Mark Usatinsky and Larry Martin, seniors, and Doug Lennon, junior, rounded out their respective podiums with third place finishes. With their next wrestling match on Saturday, the grapplers look to take on their regional with a full head of steam.

Gymnasts leaped into first place against Shorewood, winning with a total score of 133.325.  With a busy week, the gymnasts have a standoff at home against Brown Deer on Tuesday followed up by a road trip to conference foe Whitefish Bay on Saturday.

Homestead sports are beginning to heat up as the drama that is the end of the regular season approaches; be sure to keep updated as most of these match-ups could prove pivotal to Homestead’s success in the playoffs.
