Chloe Marotta: A family legacy continues

Chloe Marotta, sophomore, is hopeful that her shot will go in the basket. Once the ball went in, another point went to Homestead. “Our coach pushes us a lot, and how hard we work in practice really shows how we play in the game,” Marotta said.

Chloe Marotta, sophomore, is a gifted basketball player and a major college prospect at the young age of 15. Possessing so much talent at such a young age can come with a great amount of pressure; however, Marotta does not seem affected by this. “[There is] a lot [of pressure] because I’m younger on the team, but people build me up,” Marotta said.

Having only lost one senior last year, the team’s chemistry has continued to be stronger than ever. Last year the team had plenty of time to build chemistry as the girls welcomed the young, talented freshman. Her teammates greatly support her and her dedication to the game. “Chloe plays every game to the best of her abilities. She plays her heart out on the court, and leaves nothing behind,” Emily Polk, junior, said.

Marotta is a part of a club basketball organization called the AAU or Amateur Athletic Union. This organization is known around the country for having some of the best amateur players in the United States. The AAU is dedicated exclusively to the promotion and development of amateur sports. Specifically, Marotta has received many offers through the AAU association including Marquette University and Bradley University, which are both Division 1 schools. Marotta’s late father played for Marquette University and her older brother Cameron currently plays for Marquette University, carrying on the family legacy.

Family has affected Chloe’s basketball in more ways than one. After losing her dad, she has continued her father’s legacy through basketball, being extremely dedicated and passionate about the sport.“Ever since we were younger (we would play) in the court in my basement. We were always either outside or in my new house in the court. I’ve been playing since I was little and he (my dad) taught us all how to play basketball so when I was younger I would just play against them; that’s how I became stronger.”

As her game progresses, Marotta will eventually make some difficult, but exciting, choices regarding her college plans. No matter what school she will eventually attend, she hopes to continue the Marotta family’s basketball legacy.
