Freshman Friday: Annie Thomas splashes her way into high school

Every Friday, Highlander Publications chooses a freshman to be featured in “Freshman Friday,” giving the student body the opportunity to get to know more about the freshman class. To start, this week’s freshman is Annie Thomas.

How many siblings do you have?

I have three older sisters.

What middle school did you attend?

Lumen Christi.

What sports do you play?

Well, I swim right now, but I also play basketball and I horseback ride.

Thomas shoots for a basket. "I love basketball because you never really stop moving down the court," Thomas said.

Do you have your own horse?

Yes, I have a barn at my house and we’ve had horses my whole life.

What are the horses’ names?

My childhood horse was Penny and we still have her. I used to have a horse named Layton but we sold him. We also have Artie and Prim.

What events do you swim?

50m and 100m freestyle, so more sprint events than distance.

Do you like being a part of the team?

Yes! It’s been really fun so far and all the girls are so welcoming. My mom is the coach, too.

Do you like having your mom be your coach?

Yeah, she knows what she’s talking about. She loves coaching the girls a lot.

If you could take a road trip with anybody dead or alive, who would it be?

Jackie Kennedy. I think she was really classy and had a good style.

What are you looking forward to this year at Homestead?

Meeting new people and gaining more experience.
